FIRST Lego League (FLL) Challenge Sponsorship Information

Dear Fellow Community Member:

Warren, Ohio has a rich tradition of Encouraging Learning In Technology and Engineering in their schools starting with the Warren G. Harding High School robotics team and now extending to other Warren schools with FIRST LEGO League. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit organization whose yearly robotics competitions engage students in hands-on learning opportunities and encourage them to pursue science and technology careers. Students in grades 4-8 may compete in FIRST LEGO League Challenge where students design, build, and program a LEGO robot to autonomously complete up to 15 challenges on a 4' x 8' field. The team will also complete a research project that uses engineering principles to improve their community.

What are the benefits of FIRST? FIRST teams inspire our young students to explore and pursue career options related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, or STEM. Our students develop hands-on problem-solving skills while working alongside adult technical mentors on a ‘real-world’ engineering design project. FLL teams are comprised of up to 10 students and at least two adult mentors and the programs in Warren encourage students to join the team regardless of race, sex, academic achievement, or socio-economic status. FIRST students build strong character through teamwork and spirited yet gracious competition. Once the new season’s competition details are revealed each September, teams have roughly 12 weeks to design, build, program, and optimize a competitive robot that meets the design constraints of the FLL Manual. We then travel to a regional competition with the goal of qualifying for District, State, and World competitions.

This wonderful program comes with its fair share of associated costs. Yearly registration, technology needs, a kit of parts, and travel expenses can add up quickly. Warren City Schools is a great partner, but we must still raise a portion of our funding each year in order to be competitive. With the help of generous community businesses and individuals, we can meet our program goals as we continue to provide excellent life lessons and learning opportunities to current and future team members.

If you or your company would like to support our students, we have further information below about our sponsorship program and instructions on how to officially register your support with the team. We publicly thank and recognize our sponsors in a variety of interesting ways!
